How to obtain a CSCS Card (Green)

You must hold a valid CSCS card to access and work on all major construction sites across the UK. If you are new or returning to the construction industry, call our office to find out if we are partnering with any local training providers offering support or free CSCS courses in your area.

Step 1. Book Test

Use the official CITB booking website to initially book your touch screen CSCS Health, Safety & Environment test: Book online or call the booking line on 0344 994 4488. The test cost is £22.50.

Step 2. Requirements

Once you have passed the test, you must have a CSCS-approved qualification to apply for a card. Visit the CSCS website to see if you hold one of their required qualifications

Step 3. Qualification Arrangement

If you don’t have the required qualification, you should speak with your local job centre, college or training provider to arrange this. (This course takes one day)

Step 4. Application

Once you have the qualification, you can apply on the CSCS website.

Construction Workers

What PPE do you need when you arrive on-site?

What is PPE?
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is designed to protect workers from health and safety risks on the job. It includes items such as safety helmets or hard hats, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear, and harnesses.
Before starting on-site, it’s essential to ask the company or your recruitment contact what PPE is required for your first day. All construction sites will, at a minimum, require the following:

  • Safety footwear (steel toe-capped boots or shoes)

  • High-visibility vest or jacket

  • Hard hat

Some sites will follow a 5-point PPE standard, which includes:

  • Safety footwear (steel toe-capped boots or shoes)

  • High-visibility vest or jacket

  • Hard hat

  • Safety gloves (hand protection)

  • Safety glasses or goggles

Additionally, certain sites may require you to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), meaning you’ll need to wear a mask at all times or in designated areas of the site.
The type of RPE required will be determined by the contractor, but it’s important to note that all masks must undergo a Face Fit Test. This test ensures that the mask fits your face properly, providing adequate protection. If RPE is required for your job, be sure to speak with your Site Manager to confirm the steps you need to take.
